Robyn’s expression as an artist has developed over a number of years. She has always been interested in art and made a deliberate decision to refine her technique by participating in summer art school, first with Yvonne Rust – artist and co-founder of the Quarry Art Gallery in Whangarei – and later under tutors both here and overseas.

Colour is an enduring element in Robyn’s work which she explores for the pure pleasure. Her most recent body of work – a series of 10 abstract paintings – is about colour, its softness and heaviness. She is also influenced by the immensity and clarity of New Zealand’s landscapes and the current series reflects the feelings she had – while on a tramping trip over Ball Pass, on Mount Cook/Aoraki earlier this year – of being insignificant in the face of nature.

Robyn paints from the heart, allowing the painting to happen as an expression of her soul. She focuses on each brush stroke as part of the whole, describing the act of painting as moving through space, without time.
